Starting sometime in high-school, I noticed that I would make up words and phrases in my sleep. It usually happens that I'm having a perfectly normal dream when someone in my dream says something that I've never heard before. In my dream, I listen to the person's conversation until I figure out what they meant by what they said. Sometimes they are talking to me in these situations, and sometimes I just overhear them.
In 2002, I decided to write them down if I could remember them in the morning. Altogether, I wrote down 33 words in two different "volumes." I have generated many more than that but got away from keeping a sheet of paper beside my bed to write them down. Originally, I was thinking that I could remember them longer and write them down when I woke up -- this strategy does not work. It seems like there is only a short period of time when they are available to the mind and they have to be written down immediately upon realizing their existence.
I want to get back into writing them down. Even though I haven't written one down in 4 years, I still come up with them every couple of weeks. I've missed out on a lot of laughs by not writing them down. Currently, my night stand situation prevents me from writing, but I plan to fix that soon.
